England legend Alan Shearer has hit out at Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, who insists his side are on the right track.
Speaking after Sunday’s goalless draw at Aston Villa, the Dutchman said his side’s four clean sheets from seven Premier League games showed they are on the right track.
However, the draw at Villa Park left United 14th in the table with just eight points from seven games – the club’s worst run in the Premier League era. “
I don’t think he’s doing himself any favors,” Shearer said.
“I just thought, well, if you’ve been struggling a bit like they have and you’ve tried to claim that performance is a step in the right direction…
“It’s always a decent point going away to Aston Villa, but it was pretty turgid, wasn’t it?”

“But what he says after the game… I really don’t think he helps himself now and again when he says about ‘we’re going in the right direction.’
“They were 13th before the weekend and they’re now 14th!”
“When he said we are on the right track, before the weekend Manchester United were 13th, now they are 14th.”
